A gin-soaked caper in Summerhall with tactile, lock-forward puzzles and genuinely kind hosts. If you like classic mechanisms and a zippy finale, this one pours a generous measure.

AI Overview

AIPlayers consistently praise the friendly game masters, tidy flow, and a lock-heavy yet on-theme puzzle set. Difficulty leans accessible but still throws in a few head-scratchers. A recurring gripe is a sudden, two-minute endgame that can trump whatever time you’ve banked. Story flavor exists but isn’t deeply woven, and a few props feel like red herrings.
WeaknessesThe fixed two-minute finale can feel like a sudden-death gate and deflate an otherwise strong run. Narrative depth is modest, and some items tease paths you never use. If you dislike lots of padlocks, the style may wear thin.
StrengthsHosts set the scene well, keep hints light, and maintain a smooth pace. The space looks the part and serves up varied, satisfying puzzles with at least one adrenaline-lifting moment. The Summerhall venue adds charm.
SecurityStandard briefing and attentive monitoring keep things comfortable, and nothing points to unusual physical risk. No jump scares or blackout segments were reported.
Level of fearNot scary at all—this is a puzzle caper, not a haunt. Family-friendly vibe with a cheeky gin theme and no horror elements.
Actors' gameGuests highlight warm, patient game masters who set the tone and let teams own their solves. Hints are timed well and never feel pushy.
Quality of riddlesFair, varied, and mostly logical, with plenty of tactile locks that fit the distillery theme. There’s room for parallel solving and at least one memorable sequence. The finale compresses time and leans on reading scattered clues, which some find abrupt.
PlotYou’re tracking a disgruntled employee’s scheme and racing to save the gin before it all goes south. The premise frames the action without steering every step.
Difficulty levelEasy-to-mid difficulty suits beginners and mixed groups, and even duos can get through with steady pacing. The endgame time gate spikes pressure, so managing tempo early helps.

The room itself was fine, but the finale really took the wind out of our sails. When you hit the last puzzle you suddenly only get two minutes, no matter how much time you had banked, and it’s all about piecing together scattered clues. We reached it with about fifteen minutes left and still lost to the sudden-death cap. On the plus side, our game master was lovely and there were some novel locks,

Loved the venue in an old veterinary clinic and had a blast doing The Distillery on our Edinburgh trip. Our GM was kind, welcoming, and let us wrestle with things without over-nudging. The decor works and there’s a wide spread of interesting challenges. It’s very lock-forward, but that fits the theme, and we’d happily come back for more.

Played as a duo with low expectations and ended up thoroughly enjoying it. We mostly solved together, though a larger team could split tasks in spots. The puzzles were fun and one moment was a real rush. We escaped with two minutes left, and Tom was a great host who set the scene and only nudged us once when it mattered.

Loved the Summerhall vibe and the gin twist, and our host was a gem who let us grind without nudging too soon. Classic padlocks galore but they actually make sense here. One sequence had our hearts racing in the best way.

We tackled it as a pair and still made it out with a sliver of time, thanks to clean signposting and one perfectly timed hint. There’s a standout moment that had us cheering. Solid, satisfying room.

Great set dressing and a friendly GM, plus a nice mix of logic and tactile puzzles. The final two-minute twist felt a bit gimmicky to me, but the rest of the run was a blast. Would recommend to friends visiting Edinburgh.

Booked during Fringe on a whim and it totally hit the spot. Not brutal, yet a couple of puzzles still had us scratching our heads. Flow was smooth and the theme ties it all together.

Good pick for first-timers, with lots of locks and a clear progression. Story is more backdrop than driver, but we still had a really fun hour. Staff were lovely.

Booked on impulse during the Fringe and it was absolutely worth it. The puzzles were interesting and, even though it’s on the easier side, a couple still tripped us up. The game flows nicely and our host was lovely.

Not the toughest game at Locked In Edinburgh, but a very solid choice for both newcomers and veteran teams.
