About the escape room
Beyond the great dome of Utopia lies a desolate wasteland. Disease has ravaged the population, resources are scarce and, for those still managing to survive, life is hard. Yet, long condemned to the darkness, the Dystopians have become resilient and determined. No longer will they accept their fate quietly and no longer will the advancements of Utopia benefit only the few. Besides, they’ve made some advancements of their own and Utopia might just need them more than they realize.

Come for the gritty world-building and stay for the tight, old-school puzzles. It pairs brilliantly with Utopia, and the hosting makes the whole run smooth and satisfying.

AI Overview

AIPlayers consistently praise the immersion, set quality, and the story, which really pops when played alongside Utopia. The design leans old-school with lots of padlocks, but the logic is clear and the pace is lively. Game masters get repeated shout-outs for well-timed, tailored hints. A few tougher steps crop up, yet overall sentiment is strongly positive.
WeaknessesPadlock-heavy style may not satisfy tech-first players. Some puzzles spike in difficulty, so a few teams leaned on hints. If you’re chasing flashy gadgets, temper expectations.
StrengthsEvocative, lived-in set design with strong atmosphere. Varied, fair puzzles and confident pacing, backed by excellent GM support. The cross-room narrative with Utopia adds a rewarding extra layer.
SecurityNo specific safety details in the reviews, and no issues reported. Standard venue briefings are assumed but not described.
Level of fearNot a scare room; it’s atmospheric rather than frightening. Suitable for families and teens who want tension without horror.
Actors' gameGMs like Lucas, Charlotte, and Tom earn praise for friendly, precise clueing that matches each team’s preference. Interaction is GM-led rather than actor-driven, and no scare actors are mentioned.
Quality of riddlesA good mix of styles with a solid, old-school padlock vibe. Proper signposting and clean logic keep it fair, though a couple of steps can be chewy. Enthusiasts enjoy the flow; newcomers may need a nudge or two.
PlotA post-apocalyptic struggle outside Utopia’s dome that ties neatly into its sister room for a bigger narrative punch. The contrast between worlds elevates the experience without needing spoilers.
Difficulty levelMid-range with occasional spikes. Beginners may rely on hints, while experienced groups often move briskly and finish with time to spare.

Classic flow, crunchy but fair puzzles, and a narrative that actually matters. Do Dystopia then Utopia for the full arc—the contrast really lands. One of the better post-apoc sets I’ve seen in a while.

Loved the dusty, lived-in set and how the story clicks with Utopia. Our GM timed nudges perfectly so we never stalled yet still felt clever. Proper old-school puzzling with satisfying moments. Would happily run the pair back to back again.

Immersion is huge. If you visit Make Your Escape, do this and Utopia back to back—the story threads interlock beautifully. Puzzles are strong, though a few might challenge some teams, and it’s absolutely worth the trip.

I’m usually a sucker for high-tech tricks, but the padlock-forward design works because the logic is tight. A couple of combos really made us think, yet the signposting kept it fair. Strong room, even better if you’ve done Utopia.

The story lands really well and, for us, this played far smoother than Utopia. Signposting was there when needed and the puzzle mix felt balanced. After some frustrations with Utopia, this was a relief, and Charlotte delivered hints exactly as agreed to keep the fun high.

Took my teen and had a great time. Clear goals, good variety, and hints were short and sweet when we asked. The world-building is moody without being bleak. We left buzzing.

Happily old-school and padlock-heavy, with an excellent set. The narrative rises above the usual, especially when paired with Utopia, and that contrast lifts both rooms. Strongly recommend playing them back to back.

Such an engaging game. When Dystopia and Utopia run at the same time the story grips you, but Dystopia alone is a blast and the theming is spot on.

Feels like a solid Gen‑2 build with good pacing, a varied puzzle set, and quality scenery. We used two hints and rolled straight into Utopia afterward, which worked a treat.

We loved this room—easily one of our favourites. We ran it back to back with Utopia and three of us escaped with around twenty minutes spare, busy the whole time. The set shines, and Tom was a superb GM.

A couple of steps were tougher than I expected and I needed more help than usual. Still, everything connected well and we stayed busy in a good way. If padlocks are your jam, you’ll dig it.

Really enjoyed this, and the connection to Utopia made it even better. I actually preferred this half—it’s more my kind of room—but both are cleverly designed and well thought out.

Well-paced throughout with lots of engaging puzzles, and the link to the other room at the same venue is a smart touch.

Cracking first half of a two-part adventure, and Lucas’s hosting was brilliant—friendly, sharp, and on point throughout.
