About the escape room
The Bedlam escape room in Bury invites you behind the walls of one of Britain’s most notorious asylums. Bentham Asylum has been standing since the 1900s. By 1950, the building had earned a chilling new nickname — BEDLAM — after a string of disturbing events over the previous 50 years left staff and patients scarred and the authorities baffled. Then, in 1974, Cell P23 was mysteriously locked without explanation, and no one has been allowed inside since. You and your team are the top investigative journalists in your field, and you have been tasked with uncovering the truth. Can you go undercover, get into the cell undetected, and escape with the documents that will finally expose the secrets of BEDLAM?

AI Overview

AIPlayers consistently praise the puzzle flow and how everything ties into the Bedlam narrative. The room is physically small, with some crawling and split-team moments, and many duos finish with time to spare. Staff support and a dedicated GM get repeated shout-outs for timely, accurate hints. Overall difficulty skews moderate-to-easy for enthusiasts but still engaging.
WeaknessesSpace is tight, and multiple crawls won’t suit everyone. Experienced groups may find it on the easier or more standard side and blast through quickly. More than three or four players could feel cramped.
StrengthsImmersive set dressing and on-theme challenges make the space feel like a real ward. Puzzles are varied, fair, and include at least one standout mechanic with a lens that surprises veterans. Hosting is attentive and elevates the experience.
SecurityStandard briefings and close GM monitoring keep things on track. Expect tight spaces and repeated crawling; advise the venue in advance if mobility is a concern.
Level of fearNot scary and no jump scares or live actors, despite the asylum theme. Suitable for teens and cautious players who want mood without horror.
Actors' gameNo live actors; interaction is through a dedicated GM who watches closely and nudges when needed. Reviews highlight passionate staff and precise, timely clueing.
Quality of riddlesA clean mix of tech and classic locks with logical progression and honest cluing. Observation and teamwork matter, with moments that split players across areas. One lens-based puzzle stands out as clever and memorable.
PlotYou’re journalists digging into the long-locked cell P23 at Bentham Asylum, piecing together what happened and slipping out with the truth. The narrative threads through the tasks without heavy exposition.
Difficulty levelModerate for newcomers, on the easier side for veterans who may set quick times. Great for pairs or trios; larger groups could feel crowded.

There’s a lot packed into a small footprint, including multiple tight crawls for at least one teammate. You’ll need sharp eyes, but it’s very enjoyable. We did it as a pair; more than four would feel cramped. Not scary, no jump scares, and no live actor.

We set a new record so I’m definitely riding that high, but the puzzles genuinely flowed and fit the story. The layout was smart, and a lens-based challenge was brilliantly executed and unlike anything we’ve seen before.

Loved the moody ward vibe and how every clue actually fed the story. We were a trio and cruised without feeling spoon-fed—one gadget moment genuinely wowed us. Would happily send first-timers here.

Atmosphere is on point, puzzles are varied, and the pace never drags. We split up a few times and the coordination felt exciting instead of chaotic. Left grinning.

Great pick for a date night or your first asylum-themed game. Nothing cheap or scary, just crisp puzzles that click when you think them through. Nice balance of tech and locks.

Another strong room. It’s not huge, and the two of us escaped with time to spare, but it was still fun with a mix of tech and classic locks and teamwork across different areas. Everything connected neatly, as with the other rooms we tried at this venue.

Solid room with clean logic and a friendly GM who stepped in at just the right moments. It’s compact and you’ll crawl a bit, but the flow stays smooth and fair.

They use the space cleverly to build an immersive asylum setting with solid puzzles to match. Our host Alex was excellent, as always.

Felt more like a classic escape room, but the set dressing was strong throughout and it was a blast. We tore through it quickly and still had a great time—might even have nabbed the record.

Good theming and staff, but the space is tight and the crawling got old fast for me. As an enthusiast I found it a little too easy, though still competent overall.

Another winner from this company. Slightly easier than their other rooms, and the space feels tight if you bring more than three people.
